I know that I made a decision to be followed by a practice of nurse midwives. This has its positives and negatives.
Positive: I am guaranteed to have someone I know deliver my baby.
Positive: I really like nurses - overall their approach and bedside manner are really good and I'm one of them.
Positive: They really support and push for the natural course of pregnancy and birth.
Negative: There is one of the midwives that I just don't like or click with. Unfortunately the scheduling of my appointment this week happened to fall on the day I had to see her. I am sure she is good at her job, but her bedside manner is lacking. And with everything she says or reviews, I can't tell if it's bad or good.
Today, I am 31 weeks and 2 days along - based on ultrasound and known ovulation date. Up until now, I have measured within a week of my date. Today - 4 weeks after my last visit- I have only gained 2 pounds and measuring 3 weeks small. So this is what the midwife tells me and then says - "I think we should get an ultrasound...1st opening in 1 week and then lets visit 2 weeks from now....have a good day." There was a little more dialog including questioning me about my diet, exercise, and activity. Then a couple quick statements about how the ultrasound would be able to tell us if the baby is better off inside me or out and in the NICU. Tony and I left very frustrated and somewhat scared. Does this mean I'm doing something wrong that could be hurting the baby? If something might be wrong, why am I waiting a week to find out on ultrasound?
Anyway - needless to say it was a frustrating visit and I can't focus on anything else now except for if my baby is ok. Good thing I believe in faith and prayer. I just can't wait to have a perfect little boy in my arms and away from all this medical stuff. It is true, I wish I didn't know all the things that could go wrong. Ignorance in the medical field can be bliss.

Grrrrr... Why didn't tony just karate chop that lady! Sheesh. Well, thank goodness we have prayer to do the reassuring that the midwife failed to do! Love you guys, all three of you will be in our prayers. Maybe he is just gearing up for a major growth spurt! I guess you cant be upset next appt that youve gained 10 pounds! ;)
Love, Erin Lynn
the same thing happened when i was about that far along. i didn't really gain any weight and measured really small for a few weeks....then everything kinda picked up again!
don't worry so much sis!
faith!
love you...
aah. so frustrating! well, if this helps at all, i've had several friends who measured small their entire pregnancy and still delivered strong, healthy babies. i believe a lot of depends on how you carry your baby. if he's up in your ribs, you're not going to have as much of him poking out to measure. as long as you're eating healthy and not overdoing (do you hear me? don't overdo it! make sure to rest with your feet up every evening!), then you're doing all you can. i'll pray for you.
FYI, Trav told me after the girls were born that he prayed every day they would be healthy and pretty. aww, good dad. :)
i miss you.
